Senior Scientist, Circular Economy Solutions

We are seeking a Senior Scientist for a permanent position in our Mineral Processing and Materials Research Unit (starting from January 1st 2020 Circular Economy Solutions Unit). The unit hosts a unique research facility, including modern mineralogical, isotope geology and mineral processing laboratories, as well as a full scale pilot plant. The position will start in January 1st 2020 or as agreed.

Your main task will be to work as a researcher and a project manager in jointly funded and commercial research projects focusing on the sustainable beneficiation of primary and secondary mineral-based materials. You will be expected to generate new research concepts, services and partnerships for GTK in collaboration with our other experts, by actively and innovatively utilizing our laboratory and pilot plant facilities. Your will be involved with preparation, implementation and management of tenders, bids, and research & development projects.

The successful applicant is highly motivated and a PhD degree in a relevant branch of engineering or natural sciences is required. The applicant is expected to have competence in material science, applied mineralogy, inorganic chemistry and related analytical techniques, as well as beneficiation methodologies. Proven record in project acquisition and management related to circular economy is expected. 

Knowledge on isotope geology, established international networks and a demonstrated ability to attract external funding are considered beneficial. In addition, we expect the applicant to have good team working skills and an innovative and development-oriented approach. Fluency in English is the minimum language requirement. Skills in Finnish are regarded as a benefit.

The position is located at the GTK Research Laboratory in Espoo and also involves working at the GTK mineral processing plant (Mintec) in Outokumpu.

The benefits of the job include a working week of 36.75 hours with daily flexibility, generous annual holidays and a healthcare and pension plan. Beginning salary for Senior scientist will be between 3 880 – 4 670 euros/month.
