We are seeking a Senior Scientist to develop our know-how and R&I activities related to applied geophysics, with the aim of creating new innovations and customer-oriented applications for mineral exploration, mining, civil engineering, various cleantech solutions, and geological modelling, in general. Further main tasks for the successful applicant will be to initiate, prepare and lead national and international R&I projects funded through competitive financing, and to implement competence development in geophysics at GTK.
The competence and abilities we seek are:
A Senior Scientist is expected to have a PhD in geophysics and he/she should have a good research record and experience in R&I activities related to applied geophysics. Alternatively the position may be filled with a person having the degree of Lic. or M.Sc and having a long international research record and proven experience on demanding project work. We would, particularly, appreciate physics-oriented expertise in electromagnetic and/or potential field methods applied to various fields in economic geology and geological modelling. Deep knowledge and practical experience in electric methods and environmental studies will be a benefit. A good understanding and experience in using various geophysical techniques, instruments and interpretation tools is necessary for the job. The capability of coding or developing methodology is an advantage.
The appointment is located at one of our offices in Espoo (Helsinki capital region), Kuopio or Rovaniemi. We offer a modern, well-equipped working environment with competent, internationally oriented and highly trained personnel.

Mineral Processing and Materials Research unit of the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) is one of the leading mineral processing research facilities globally.
We are seeking a highly motivated research/senior scientist to join our Mineral Processing and Materials Research unit. The position will be located in GTK’s Outokumpu office (GTK Mintec).
Your task will be to work as a mineral processing specialist and project manager, both in commercial and jointly-funded projects, in collaboration with other experts of the Pilot Plant team. Projects are typically orientated mainly for the mineral processing, environmental and chemicals industry. In addition, you will also take part in developing the digitalization infrastructure of the pilot plant.
The applicant is expected to have a MSc or PhD degree in mineral processing, process technology or other related field. Past experience in the mineral processing field is essential. The task requires a good skills of English, both spoken and written. Ability to communicate in Finnish language is an advantage. To be successful in the position, we require someone with good interpersonal and organizational skills. A diverse knowledge of the mining industry is desirable. Earlier experience in hydrometallurgy is a bonus. We expect a readiness for travel due to GTK’s broad participation in international projects.

GTK’s Mineral Processing and Materials unit is specialized in working closely with mining companies, equipment suppliers and engineering offices. The Pilot Plant is a unique testing infrastructure in terms of scale and variety of materials. Operations include the whole research chain from crushing to dewatering.
